In 1999, the education scholar Linda Tuhiwai-Smith, in her book “Decolonizing Methodologies: Research and Indigenous Peoples, “emphasized the colonial character of much research. She warned that it “brings with it a new wave of exploration, discovery, exploitation and appropriation.”
